Mamallapuram.

After our stay in Pondicherry (another blog, another time) we bussed up to Mamallapuram, a place we had heard good things about, especially from our friend Carol. She had been there before and was going to be there again we were planning to. She even managed to get us a room next to hers in a lovely place overlooking the Bay of Bengal.

The sea provides the local sea front restaurants with food and the locals a living. The noisy engines on the boats fire up very early in the morning but that's a small price to pay for the position!!

Fish drying in the sun.

Fishing nets being repaired.

The Shore temple in the distance.

Not all the fish make it on to the plate though.......

Mamallapuram or Mahabalipuram as it is also known is a world heritage site.  An amazing array of sculptures are dotted around the surrounding areas.

The goddess Amman is predominant in this area and her devotees dress in red.....

We also had a trip to the Eagle temple.

There is a traditional dance festival going on here as well.

And finally, just some photos we like......
